sad but true there's far too many
characters with air guitars
on deluded flights of fancy
from the cloisters to delancey

curses and corrosive jeers
loping down the sidewalk here

gangland rat won't tell you that
the well respected bureaucrat
he's bought off
the truth is that
no one can be trusted

reaching into trash cans
picking up some shoes
tough luck gets around this town
leaving many screwed

shapeless bodies trundling by
porcupines paying dues
rippling out from every pore
the gotham city blues
