trembling in his gut
from all the hunger pangs
he mumbled
staring at the cupboard thinking
nothing on the shelf
not much more than worthless air
jumbled in his pocket
1992 back when
crusty and uptight bush one
paraded round as president
closing down most social programs
leaving hordes of homeless gimps
freezing on the street
age of callous half hearted indifference
simple human warmth was gone
removed from their lexicon
corporate shysters jockeying for titles and positions
hurried worried scurried about
more and more shiftless prune faced republicans
protected by a bitchslap book of regulations
everyone numbed by the starched white radical
remake of consumer culture
ugly twists of propaganda
spilled out from the satellite dish
oh say can you see under scorching hot light?
age of callous half hearted indifference
